182 KM WORLD RECORD RELAY SWIM ACROSS THE SEA OF CORTEZ
SWIM SEA OF CORTEZ 2010
Welcome
The mission of “ Mujeres Activas” through Por Ellas… Open water-swimming relay events, is to promote health and wellness for women through education and active lifestyles.
While the swimmers are in the water, on land, at the event takes place waterfront scenery, the health care professionals and insurance representatives are giving talks, educating and offering free mammograms and pap smears to the women of where the event takes place. As a result of the free screenings, cancer was detected in several women and treatment is initiated.
This was certainly accomplished by several “Por ellas…” (For them) events.1rst 2006, 2 of them at 2008, and 2009 last October, inviting several enthusiastic teams to swim a Por Ellas… and for the very first time, race money to help La Paz Oncology Hospital. It was a successful charity event, but not enough to get a full covered for the machine.
The 5th event “Por ellas…” Swim sea of Cortéz 2010, will be to continue with our promise, raise money to buy a Acuson 300x Machine that will be donated to the La Paz Oncology Hospital. Dr. Roberto Rodriguez Pulido, the chief at the Oncology Hospital, indicates that this machine works as a scanner to identify the exact location and stage of the disease after cancer has been detected. The use of this machine will be free for all women in which cancer is detected. The goal is to raise $120,000 USD for the purchase of the machine – ambitious, but with 160 miles to go, we hope it can be done!
“Mujeres Activas” (a Civil Association/non-profit legally registered in Mexico)
Only through mutual support can we improve awareness, early detection and treatment of women’s cancer – one woman at a time. Any support you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

BREAKING NEWS
“We swam 63.8 nautical miles in 36:57. Nora was seriously attacked by
jellyfish paralyzingly her arm stomach and leg - looked like acid was
poured on her body. Edna was attacked as well not as severe. Paul
had multiple attacks and Monica had to have the Jellyfish pulled of
her face. We could not swim another 40 nautical miles with a
reduction of swimmers in 5 foot seas and 30 knots in our face
basically blinding Monica. The conditions where the toughest I'v ever
been in and each swimmer performed well above all expectations with
more courage than I've ever witnessed.” - Vito Bialla
